Disney Magic Cruise Ship, Disney Cruise Line
Disney Cruises are ideal for the whole family because there is so much available to keep kids of all ages entertained. It is not difficult for everyone to find something to do.There are four Disney cruise ships and each ship varies a bit as to the exact design and specific activities, but the general idea of what is available for each age group is the same.
Each age group of kids has an area designated and designed specifically for them. There is a nursery for children under three, the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab for kids ages 3-12, the Edge for preteens ages11-14 and the Vibe for 14-17 year olds.
On embarkation day you can register your child at the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab. Your child will get a wristband that makes drop off and pick up easy. If your child is over 8 you can indicate that they are allowed to leave on their own. This space is full of games, toys, activities and movies which kids can explore on their own as well as counselor led activities. From cooking, to arts and crafts, to fun with computers your child will be entertained for hours. Disney’s wave phone system also makes it easy to get in touch with you anywhere on the ship in case of emergency.
The Edge and Vibe also have hang out space and age appropriate activities available including dance parties, movies and more.
The nurseries, Flounder’s Reef Nursery on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder and It’s A Small World Nursery on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. Disney Cruise Line is a bit different from other cruise lines in that it has a nursery for infants and toddlers from 12 weeks to three years old. The nurseries do require reservations and there is a $6 per hour fee. They are staffed by trained counselors and are open late in the evening with space available for naps and sleeping. This is a great option if you have a toddler along and need a few hours to explore some of the adult only areas of the ship.
The Chill Spa on the Disney Dream and Disney Magic is a spa designed exclusively for teens ages 13 through 17. They offer a range of services perfect for teens looking to relax.
There are also plenty of activities for families. There is a family lounge on each ship where families can just hang out or participate in a number of different staff led games and activities.
The pools are another great place for families to spend time together. Depending on the ship, there are pools of various sizes to keep all family members safe and entertained.
One important thing to be aware of is that toddlers and infants who are not potty trained are not allowed in any pools, even if they are wearing swim diapers. This is a health mandate for all cruise ships. While it may be inconvenient for some families, it is an important sanitary measure for cruise ships. Toddlers in swim diapers are welcome in Nemo’s Reef, a splash fountain area on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy ships or in Nephew’s Splash Zone on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder ships.
Movies and Shows
If you need to take some time to relax indoors, there are movie theaters aboard each ship. You can catch a beloved Disney movie with the whole family. There are also several live shows that feature Disney characters and music.
Kids and adults alike are also welcome in the Arr-cade on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy ships and Quarter Masters on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. There are both new and classic arcade games available so that parents and kids will be entertained together. Deck parties happen at different intervals throughout the cruises. They feature Disney characters, dance parties and fireworks.
The Disney Fantasy offers The Muppet Adventure Game. It is a self paced interactive mystery game. It is designed for kids 9 and older and can be played repeatedly as there are different outcomes.
